Model site revenue from pageviews, RPM and CTR across markets.
Because advertisers bid for the audience, and audience value tracks purchasing power, ecommerce maturity and advertiser competition in that market. The gap between the highest and lowest RPM countries is larger than most publishers expect.
| Country | Typical display RPM | Relative to US |
|---|---|---|
| United States | $8 – $22 | 1.0× |
| Australia | $7 – $18 | 0.85× |
| Canada | $6 – $16 | 0.75× |
| United Kingdom | $6 – $15 | 0.72× |
| Germany | $5 – $14 | 0.65× |
| Netherlands | $5 – $13 | 0.62× |
| France | $4 – $10 | 0.48× |
| Spain / Italy | $3 – $8 | 0.35× |
| Poland | $2 – $5 | 0.22× |
| Brazil | $1 – $3 | 0.13× |
| India | $0.30 – $1.50 | 0.06× |
The practical consequence is that traffic mix matters more than traffic volume. A site with 50,000 monthly US pageviews earns more than a site with 400,000 pageviews from low-RPM markets. Any content strategy aimed at ad revenue should be a strategy about which countries the content is written for.
Almost as much as geography. RPM tracks what the eventual conversion is worth to the advertiser.
| Niche | US RPM range | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Insurance, legal | $25 – $80 | Extremely high customer lifetime value |
| Finance, investing | $15 – $50 | High-value products, competitive bidding |
| B2B software | $12 – $40 | Large contract values |
| Real estate | $10 – $30 | High transaction value |
| Health, wellness | $8 – $25 | Broad advertiser base |
| Technology, software | $6 – $18 | Competitive but crowded |
| Online tools, utilities | $4 – $12 | High volume, moderate intent |
| News, general | $3 – $9 | Enormous inventory supply |
| Entertainment, memes | $1 – $4 | Low commercial intent |
CPC — cost per click — is what an advertiser pays for one click. You see a share of it.
CPM — cost per mille — is what an advertiser pays per thousand ad impressions. Note that this is per ad unit, not per pageview.
RPM — revenue per mille — is what you earn per thousand pageviews, after the network takes its share and across however many ad units the page carries. This is the only number that matters for forecasting, and it is the one this calculator uses.
The relationship: a page with three ad units at a $4 CPM each, with a 100% fill rate, produces a $12 RPM before the network share. AdSense pays publishers 68% of display revenue, so the publisher RPM would be about $8.16. Confusing CPM with RPM is the most common reason a forecast comes out three times too high.
Between roughly $1 and $25 depending almost entirely on country and niche. US finance traffic can exceed $30; general-interest traffic from low-CPM markets can be under $1.
At a $10 RPM, 100,000 monthly pageviews. At a $3 RPM, over 330,000. This is why the traffic mix matters more than the raw number.
Publishers receive 68% of revenue for display ads and 51% for AdSense for Search, after any ad network fee. That split has been public since 2013.
They are modeling ranges, not predictions. Actual RPM varies with seasonality — Q4 is typically 30–50% above Q1 — ad blocker rates, viewability and page layout.
Mediavine requires 50,000 monthly sessions, Raptive 100,000. Both typically deliver 2–4× AdSense RPM, so the switch is worth making as soon as you qualify.
Yes, and materially. Ad block rates run 15–40% in Western markets and are highest among technical audiences. A developer-focused site should discount these figures accordingly.
No. The calculation runs in this page.
